In today’s discussion, we focused on
a small classroom versus a lecture in comparison to one another. Riley provided
the idea that both sizes of classrooms allow students to learn specific subjects,
but smaller classrooms allow for more attention on a topic. Rather than a large
room lecture, smaller, more interactive classrooms provide more hands-on help
from the teacher and peer help from other students. In a building with smaller
classrooms, the walls are thicker so that these classrooms aren’t interrupted
by other ones. In lecture-like classes, the relationship between the teacher
and student is lost. With an abundance of students, professors do not remember all
students’ names and may never meet each student unless the student seeks help. In
lecture halls, many professors use microphones to allow for all students, including
those in the back rows to listen and take note of what they say. In a smaller
class, if one sits in the front rows, the teacher interacts more with those
students and expects them to pay attention compared to the far back rows. I
agree with Noah’s comment that with online classes, your more disconnected from
school, and interaction with other students and the professor. Kyle also
pointed out that in a classroom you are more likely to talk to other people and
get involved in school more by creating new friends.
