Having an expectation of something before going into it can have a impact on how you are going to feel when you are there. When you are given a second chance at doing something or going somewhere you can’t let how your first experience went guide how your second will go. You need to have a open mind when going into something for the first time. If you have a bad experience  the first time it happens you will have a bad idea going in the second time. Having a bad experience the first time can have you judging the second time you do something and to hold a standard of what it should be like. People around you can also have a impact on how your experience goes. If they are not having a good time they could be saying negative things and that could impact you on your experience.

Percy was talking about that if there are more people then there is nothing else to look at. The more you look at something the less value you get out something. If you have a idea of what something is before going you will expect to see what you have seen before. You need to keep a open mind before going to somewhere new. Going into something with a expectation will ruin your experience because you will have a mindset already. You also need to not look at the view through a screen. People always spend so much time taking pictures of different scenes  rather than just taking in the view. You need to live in the moment and not worry about taking a picture of the view that you are looking at. Enjoying it with the people you are with also plays a role in living in the moment.

During our discussion we talking about how no one teaches another and no one self teaches either. This statement is saying that you learn from experiences and not from other people. You can’t just throw your knowledge at other people because they won’t always understand the way you are explaining it. You can’t teach yourself because you aren’t just born with knowledge and you learn through experiences. Communication teaches how to work through life. Everyone learns in different ways so when they experience something in life they explain it in different ways. By handing people knowledge they won’t always understand it. Learning something is through real world experiences. In order to understand both sides of the conversation have to engage in what is being said. Learning is understanding and understanding is learning. This discussion was helpful because I got to see other people’s view on what Freire is saying in his essay.

What makes a teacher is when the teacher engages with the students and give the students independence. When teachers give examples to the students and fully explains them to the students. I feel that when teachers connect to the students the students understand the material more. What makes a teacher bad is that they are ignorant sometimes to problems going on in the students life. They don’t always understand the problems going on in the students life. They make the students memorize the information instead of fully teaching it and that can confuse the students because they don’t always understand the information in the books fully. This connects to Freire by saying that student don’t always get the help they need when doing their work and understanding. Students sometimes can over exaggerate the teachers not doing their work by just being lazy but teachers can sometimes not explain fully the material.

Make sure that the students are retaining the information and not just memorizing it. The teachers are like tyrants and the students are slaves because they can’t do anything else except just listen to the teacher. Their creativity is suppressed by not being able to express themselves . A lot of teachers just lecture to the students and do less work for themselves. Many teachers have kids just read their material and make them memorize their content. The students are treated like robots in the way they are learning the material. We talked about that students need more time so they can express how they feel through their work. The teachers should be able to connect with the students in class. Teachers need to spend more time while grading test to make sure that the students are understanding the information being taught. Many students can get nervous when asking questions in class because they don’t want to sound behind anyone else. Liv Vearling led the discussions.
