In my discussion group we discussed how space can impact learning capabilities, we realized that institutions of higher education want their students to learn in places other than the classroom because they may not be able to access the classroom always. Classrooms are separate from the dorms because they want kids to have a break from learning and enjoy the experience. If the dorms and the academic areas were together, kids would constantly feel like they are in school, making it a job than an experience to gain more knowledge. Having the dorms separate from the academic areas helps students to study more efficiently. As a result, students seem to like this separation and seem to do better because it feels like they have a life outside of school. On top of how space impacts learning, we also discussed that most kids prefer a smaller setting because it is more personal with the teacher. Sometimes the bigger lectures can be very intimidating and it may be harder to retain information. Also in correlation to space, we talked about an age gap between teachers and students. We mostly agreed, that teachers who are younger, make learning enjoyable while the older teachers are strict and make learning not as enjoyable. Finally, sometimes teachers think that kids study best in a library or a school building but in our group we stated that most of us work better in a comfortable area other than an academic building because it helps us learn better.
