Writing Assignment 1
Topic Selection: I plan to dive into topic three for my writing assignment. I plan to explain the gap between the teacher and student at WCU, what causes this, how students can communicate with their professors, regardless of their gender/race/class. Of course, I will compare and relate these subjects to Freire’s “The Banking Concept of Education” and his views on the student/teacher relationship.

Thesis: In Paul Freire’s passage, “The Banking Concept of Education”, he discusses the displacement of the relationship between the student and teacher, “Education must begin with the solution of the teacher-student contradiction”; until this “contradiction” is mended through communication, compassion, and effort from both the student and teacher, no learning will take place.
Quotes: Page 1, paragraph 7, line 2 “ Education must begin with the solution of the teacher-student contradiction, by reconciling the poles of the contradiction so that both are simultaneously teachers and students.”
Page 2, paragraph 3, line 1 “Indeed, the interests of the oppressors lie in “changing the consciousness of the oppressed, not the situation which oppresses them”; for the more the oppressed can be led to adapt to that situation, the more easily they can be dominated.”

Positive: Sam’s thesis clearly states what he is going to talk about in his writing and clear points.
Negative: Sam’s thesis contains the same quote that he is going back up his argument by.
