The Loss of the Creature, Percy talked about everyone taking the beaten track or shortcut which does not make it short anymore. In our discussion group today, we talked and discussed about the benefits of not taking the shortcut and everyone else’s opinion if people should take the shortcut or not. It’s not short and effective because everyone takes it. People always take short cuts and think their gonna get the best results and be successful. For example, if you use a short cut in a test or a project by using something online because it’s easier and faster, but it’s less creative and ur more likely to get a less advanced score or grade. When people take shortcuts they ignore other people. But when people listen to reach other and others point of view it helps you open more ideas and be more creative as a person. Someone’s opinions was people tend to make more mistakes due to quickness. Change is a creative process which is similar to going to college because that’s what we’re taught since childhood from our families influences.

In our discussion group we will talk about the differences between banking education and problem-posing education. We also discussed the strengths and weaknesses between the two. The banking education system is not efficient because of how passive you are and you potentially aren’t actually learning. In high school the banking education was mainly model that the teacher taught you to do good on the test less of learning the actual information. You memorize everything your teacher taught you, use it for the test, and then all the information you retained is gone. We talked about how most people are forced to take classes and go to college that they really don’t want to be at and learn. This causes a forced learning style, making not want to go to school and get an educational. This is better then the banking education method. Problem Posing education is getting students to do more and get involved in a learning environment. Banking education is when the teacher just talks and is teaching you while ur sitting in a classroom, and your supposed to obtain all the information the professor talks about. Problem posing forces students to use critical thinking and talking about in groups with other peers.

In our discussion group we talked about Friere’s quote “The truth is, however, that the oppressed are not “marginals,” are not people living “outside” society. They have always been “inside”—inside the structure which made them “beings for others.” ” We also discuss our opinions towards this very much similar situation we deal with today when it comes to oppression. We shared our opinions some people thought there should be more opportunities due to the fact their is still racism. Lower class still to this day have less chances and opportunities then people that are privileged with money. They are in the society but more outsiders. They are commonly seen has two completely different things. Jake connects to the Friere’s quote due to the fact he’s apart of a foundation that was for a kid who fell off a cliff in California while hiking and died. The kids passion was helping out the people in poverty in Chester, we all agree that there should be more people like Andrew who went out of his way to help the less fortunate kids in Chester. The foundation involves people pairing up with kids in Chester and mentor them for school events. They also collect backpacks and school supplies and donate them to the kids in Chester that can’t afford school supplies.

Teachers talk about reality tho it’s predictable opposite has students

In my discussion group today the topic was how Freire describes teachers as being very “opposites” from the students. We talked about how this makes students not able to express creativity. We also discussed how Freire states how misguided the education system and that he stays students are basically containers because students don’t learn anything, we just store information. He compares students as slaves and they never discovery that they teach the teacher. So students are misguided that teachers don’t learn new things from teachers, so they get not recognition. Students are unable to be their own person because they are already attempted to the world. We talked about it makes sense he thinks these thoughts due to the time period it was written in, the 1970. Are topic of discussion also led us into mentioning the “Banking concept of education” that we as students just take in deposits of information the teacher is saying. We don’t understand why he says teachers know everything and students know nothing. Teachers think we know nothing to make it easier for them to explain lessons and teach, students know stuff but teachers act like we don’t.
